Summer Lovin'

(Taken while riding a tandem bike along the coast with an old friend.)

Sometimes I take summer for granted.  I'll whine mostly about the extreme heat outside (and inside due to our lack of an air conditioner.)  I rather dislike being sticky and too hot to sleep, though I love flipping over the pillow to enjoy the cooler side. I complain about how bland of a season it is as I love spring and fall. Spring for the freshness, the new growth, the baby birds, and wildflowers blooming. Fall for the crisp air, the brightly colored leaves that cover the ground, and that comfortable, I need to sit by the window with a blanket, a good book, and some coco, feeling. Because of those two seasons I just never give summer (or winter!) the credit it deserves. So here's to you Summer!

Summer just like any other season feels like a fresh start. Anyone who has to go to a regular high school  will know that summer is freedom. It means no more homework or tedious tests!(I can't explain how happy I am to be done with that nonsense!) You can sleep till noon and eat ice cream all day if you so choose. There are pool parties and fresh fruit never tasted as sweet as it does when eaten during a summer barb-q. I love the beach, watching the dolphins play in the waves, and people fending off seagulls. I love the sunshine and the way it feels on my skin. I even appreciate a good sunburn! (But don't be like me! Remember to wear sunblock!)

It's just part of the year that always comes and goes before I realize, so this time I'm going to utilize my time as wisely as I can. One thing for sure that I know I want to do is go camping or backpacking. Anything that get's me out of the city and into the wild!
